Why X.commerce is a BIG Deal for eCommerce

Some very exciting eCommerce news today; eBay is following up on their initial investment and acquiring the remaining 51% of Magento. eBay will be making Magento an integral part of their new open commerce initiative, X.commerce. This is exciting news for eBay, Magento and more importantly, online retailers, who are going to benefit from significant innovation from eBay and the partner eco-system. eBay CEO John Donahoe talks here about the impact of this acquisition. As part of the announcement, eBay has also re-launched X.com to showcase each aspect of this new platform: eBay, PayPal and now Magento.

At Cloud Conversion, we believe that this new platform will enable online retailers with many of the tools necessary to successfully run a rapidly growing online businesses and also enable partners to extend the platform into key areas such as CRM, ERP, Live Chat, Email Marketing and more. Magneto recently launched MagentoGo, its new cloud-based platform and MagentoGo add-ons, where Cloud Conversion’s CloudGento integration with Salesforce.com is the first and only CRM integration. We did a cool demo of this integration at the most recent Magento Imagine Conference last February.

Magento CEO and co-founder Roy Rubin and CTO Yoav Kutner expressed enthusiasm about the new resources available for the growth and development of Magento’s products in a video announcement and assured Magento customers that the vision and plan of eBay lines up with the current mission of Magento.

Although all of the details of the agreement going forward are unknown, more will be revealed over the next couple of months and at the 2011 X.commerce Innovate Conference on October 12-13 in San Francisco.

Do you believe that X.commerce is the future of eCommerce? We do and we are excited to work closely with the new X.commerce team to deliver the next generation of eCommece technologies to online retailers.
